Clubmasters, aviators, and wayfarers stem from the same classic style; the new ones we see are reworked with modern touches. I'm assuming everyone reading this has owned a pair of aviators or wayfarers. The clubmasters channel the 1960's, giving you an even more "retro" vibe than with a pair of aviators or wayfarers. In the 60's, the lenses were usually smaller. The "new style" is to pick a pair with a bit bigger frame and lenses to be closer to the wayfarers. They are also reminiscent of Tom Cruise in The Outsiders..
A leather jacket is never a bad choice if you're looking to venture back in fashion history. However, make sure you counter the old with the new; keep coming back to the future ;). Keeping your outfit modern and fresh is best done with accessories, like a scarf, or the shoes you wear.
Speaking of scarves, I get a lot of questions about the right way for men to wear scarves. Men should wear masculine scarves to avoid looking feminine. A scarf is all about holding in warmth while adding some flare to the way you look. One favorite of mine has always been to wrap it around a single time as shown above. If you want, you can get fancy with it (like I did in second half of the photos) and tie it once. The knot will frame your neck similar to how a tie does, but wrapping it makes sure you're warm on the days it looks like spring..but it isn't.
Takeaways:
- Pick up some Clubmasters if you want to stand out and kick it old school, Ponyboy.
- When you buy a scarf, go for something long (it gives you more options and the innuendo is priceless).
- Rob Pattinson gets it.
- Take Geezer Style seriously.
Wear It Write.
Clubmasters look great! And I'm digging the style you got here, definitely going to re-create this myself.
